Adventures in Househunting – Our First Day Out

I must say, my first day driving around looking at houses was not very promising. We did not find “The One.” And I know that I should not expect to find the perfect home the first day I went out looking, but I didn’t even find one that I would consider. I hope we have better luck this weekend.

When my agent, Bruce, picked me we had a list of 8 homes around East Cobb to visit. Within the first hour of us driving around, we got word that 3 of those had gone under contract (good news for the economy, bad news for my house hunt). The first house was a great floorplan, but not enough of a backyard for us. Also, the houses were very close together. The next few houses we looked at all at their pluses, but they were not were I wanted to live. Some were older, and although updated, had very small bedrooms. I think after this out, both Bruce and I have a better idea of what I am looking for.

This week, Kevin and I have been very proactive in our home search. While we get daily emails from Bruce, we are also browsing the internet and doing our own research. We took the 8 homes in Smyrna we were interested in and mapped them out. Wednesday evening we drove them all. We were looking at the lot the houses are on, the neighborhood, neighbors, and the exact location. Of those 8, there are 3 we are going to go look at with Bruce. Taking that hour and a half saved Bruce a lot of time (and us–why look at something when you know before you go in you won’t live there?).

We plan to go looking again with Bruce this Saturday. Hopefully, we will be one step closer to our dream home. This househunting is quite a process, but I can’t wait to close and be a homeowner!

Nice floorplan, but yard isn't for us
